It didn’t hurt that strangers would often ask her where she bought her purse. The 34-year-old Cocoa resident is part of a growing trend of people — some recently laid off or unable to find work — who are attempting to start home-based businesses. Richard Henderson publisher of Home Business Magazine said the trend is gaining momentum because the home-business market moves in reverse to the overall economy. “I call it a negative barometer” Henderson said. “As the economy skids into recession and possibly into depression home-based business activity increases. “He said it’s a natural reaction for people to attempt a home-based business because it is “the easiest thing to move into. “Capital and start-up investment is minimal compared to an outside-the-home business” he said.
